Cell phone fun

Posted: September 19th, 2005

After my hockey game yesterday I realized I couldn’t find my cell phone. I know I brought it with me, where was it? Checked my bag again, check the restroom, nothing. Maybe I left it at home?

Drove home and searched for it, no luck. I turned on my bluetooth which would find it if it were within 30′ or so, nothing. It’s not here.

I know I had it when I got lunch so I started to retrace my steps. Went to the Longs Drugs, nothing. Checked the Subway where I got lunch, nothing. Finally drove out to the rink again, checked all over, lost and found, nothing.

Bummed. I lost my cell phone.

Went online to Cingular.com to report it stolen and it turns out someone had been using my phone. That’s not a good feeling. Even worse is that he was using the phone while I was still on the ice. However, thanks to the Cingular site, I was able to see the calls he had made. =)

I started calling back all the numbers he called, trying to get a name out of them. A few calls in, I reach a lady who says her son’s friend Paul found a cell phone today. Oh, and he happens to work at the rink. Bingo!

Call the rink and I get in touch with the manager on duty. Her name was Lydia and she was a great help. I explained the whole story to her. Turns out there’s a few Pauls who work at the rink, but only one worked today. Paul Gonzalez.

Lydia then called Paul’s real cellphone and left a message to call her back, saying that the owner of the cellphone was here. The locker rooms were locked during the games so it was unlikely that someone stole it, more likely lost. But all that was thrown out the window when I looked in my wallet and found that my cash was missing also.

I sent an email to my team letting them know what had happened and advising them to check their belongings to make sure they were not missing anything.

Hey guys,

Just a heads up. I had my phone and money stolen from my bag today. The money was stolen from inside my wallet. Both of which were in my pants pockets in my bag.

I did a little detective work and found that the prick made a few calls between 2:45 and 2:55. I know this from the call log on the
cingular website. The phone goes to voicemail now so I’m assuming he’s turned it off.

Yes, I’m sure it’s a he. Because I called all the numbers on the list that were called and reached some very nice people who confirmed they
received a call from a person named Paul today around that time. funny enough, he works at the Ice Rink.

I called the Ice rink and confirmed there was only one person working today names Paul, Paul Gonzalez.

Paul Gonzalez stole my phone and money from my bag today while we were on the ice.

I’ve gotten some support from the people who he called including Logitech. They know what has happened and that I’m on to him. I’d
suggest that everyone check their wallets to see if anything is missing. If so, please let me know so I can really fuck this guy.

Attached is a call log of numbers that were called while I was on the ice. Use them as you see fit.

It was around 6pm and my wife and I went to dinner for a break. When I got back from dinner, I decided to turn off the phone. I already had enough evidence to prove this guy stole my phone. But before I turned it off, I wanted to sent him a message that I was fully aware who he was and what he had done. So I sent him a few text messages I knew would reach the phone.

Subject: Hi Paul Gonzalez
Message: Hi Paul Gonzales. This is the guy whose phone you stole today at the Ice Rink.

Subject: Hope you had fun
Message: I hope you had fun playing with my phone and stealing my cash from my hockey bag in a locked locker room.

Subject: More fun
Message: I’m sure you’ll have some explaining to do when you get back to work at the ice rink, Lydia has been a big help

Subject: No more fun for you
Message: I’m shutting the phone off now and reporting it stolen. I already have a good list of all your friend’s numbers.

Subject: Employment
Message: Good luck finding a new job =)

UPDATE 9/21: Filed a police report today. The operator was shocked that I got the guy’s name out of the people he called. I called the rink and let them know that I filed and the case number. Lydia has already given all the information to the General Manager and they will be talking with Paul tomorrow, if he shows up that is.

UPDATE 9/23: Just got confirmation that Paul is no longer employed at the Ice Center. Booooyah!
